"The home of rural life and the trades
of yesteryear" is the way used to describe the museum
that was recently opened at Han-sur-Lesse at the initiative of Joseph
Baijot, a building contractor.
This museum perfectly depicts the rural world, where people lived
off the land and the forest. From the moment you step inside, you
will discover every aspect of rural life, with its country folk
as rough but kindly witnesses, the enthusiastic craftsman hard at
work, and the rites and liturgy of work well done. Characters who
are large than life and appear so alive, even though they are frozen
in time, that the reconstruction is true down to the very last detail.
You will discover the mystique of the countryside expressed in rich
and gripping detail here. And the mystery of this land that united
in the past with the natural elements to challenge the peasants
of the Ardennes, Famenne and other areas and which needed careful
and continuous care.
Each trade, whether it was the cobbler's or the baker's, or whether
it involved working with their hands or with their spirit, was filled
with beauty and grandeur. This splendid museum clearly illustrates
this and each craftsman is depicted in his setting and surrounded
by his tools and the items he made.
